Can I Remove and Reapply My Window Film?

This is a common question that many people ask, and the answer is yes — security window film can be removed and reapplied depending on the type of film that was used. Window film is not permanent and can be removed easily. Some window films, however, can’t be reapplied.

Its ability to be reapplied will depend on the type of film that was installed and the way the film was designed to stick to the window. If you want to be able to remove and reapply your window film, be sure to express these concerns to the window tint installer at the beginning of the installation process.

Removing and Reapplying Window Film

You can remove the window film yourself, but it is always recommended that you use a professional to get the best results.

When removing security window film, it’s important to take your time and do the job carefully. You’ll want to ensure that you don’t damage the glass, as this could cause the film to lose its security benefits. Additionally, depending on the type of film used, you may need to use certain tools and techniques to remove it properly. It is recommended that you use a spray bottle filled with soap and warm water.

Spray this onto the film until it is saturated, cover the saturated film with plastic or a garbage bag, and wait about eight hours. You can start at one corner and slowly peel away the window film. If you need a little more help, try using a plastic scraper or credit card. You can use a glass cleaner to remove any adhesive residue.

Your window film can only be reapplied if it is a static cling film. In most cases, adhesive films will need to be thrown away after removal because they can’t be reapplied.
